Program Highlights
Comprehensive Kindergarten Preparation
Prepares children for academic success in kindergarten and beyond. This accelerated learning program is designed to fast-track our learners into school readiness, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
Fine Motor Skills
Daily activities promote the development and strengthening of fine motor skills. Children practice writing their names and letters each day, encouraging fine motor strength and development.
Reading Skills Development
Focus on essential reading skills like blending and separating sounds in short words. Children will also recognize and read sight words, such as “the,” “a,” and others, laying the foundation for successful reading.
Math Skills Development
Engaging games and activities to reinforce key math concepts. These concepts are reviewed and practiced through games and activities that repeat throughout the curriculum, ensuring mastery and confidence.
Self-Expression
Daily activities promote self-expression. Children practice writing or drawing in a journal each day, allowing them to express their creativity while enhancing their fine motor abilities.
Family Connections
Each week, the families will have access to a digital family letter! This letter explain what their child learned throughout the JumpStart curriculum this week, and what to look forward to next week. It also includes some ideas for families to do at home to continue the learning.
Reading Activity
Story Time
Gather your children on the carpet to read a story. This can be any book of your choosing.
Letter Activity
Sound Bingo
Give each child a bingo card and some bingo chips, or something similar. Explain to the children that you will call out a letter sound and the children will look at their bingo board. If they have the letter that makes that sound, they will place a bingo chip over the letter. The first person to cover their entire board with chips (have all their letter sounds called) wins!
Language Activity
Clap the Sounds
Clap the Sounds – Explain to the children that this week they will practice taking a word and splitting it into sounds. Ask the children to listen to your example. “Cat. /c/ /a/ /t/. Cat.” As you say the sounds, clap each one. Then, invite the children to repeat after you. Repeat this process with each of the words.
Math Activity
Roll and Jump
Roll and Jump – Roll the die (or dice) and count how many dots are face up when they land. That is the number of jumps the children will do! Each child should get a turn rolling the dice and counting the dots before all the children jump and count aloud together.
Sentence-Building Activity
Sight Word Go Fish
Shuffle together the 2 sets of sight words and pass them all out to the children and yourself, like a deck of cards. Then, play Go Fish!
Start by saying, “Who has the word “the”?” and placing your sight word card down so the children can see it. The children should look at their words and see if they have the matching word. If they do, they will give you their sight word card! Then, move to the next child and they repeat the same process. Continue until each child has had a turn.
Letter Sound Activity
/K/ Sounds
Show the letter ‘K’ key word and sound card. Ask the children to say with you, ‘Kite, /K/’. Invite each child to take the card and point to the kite, saying, ‘kite’ and then point to the letter, saying the sound.
Writing Activity
Journaling
While sitting in small groups, encourage each child to spend 3 or so minutes writing or drawing in their journal. They can write words, a story, letters, numbers, or anything else they would like. They can also draw in their journals if they would prefer. The only guideline is that they should stick to 1-2 pages. This way, their notebook can last them all summer.
When the time is up, invite children to share what they wrote or drew in their journal with the group. Store the journals somewhere safe in the classroom so they can be used daily.
